Spelling Bee

18spelling-bee-2-800x450

In 2016, the Tennessee Titans became the first professional sports organization to sponsor a spelling bee, signing a contract with Scripps National Spelling Bee to host a regional bee for Middle Tennessee students at Nissan Stadium.

The program has since expanded to include 51 counties and hundreds of schools in middle and west Tennessee.

The Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee is hosted in March at Nissan Stadium each year and is free and open to the public. The top two spellers receive an all-expense paid trip to represent our state in the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Who's Eligible?

Public, private, charter, and home-school students up to 8th grade enrolled at a participating school. Note: Schools and students from Shelby County are not eligible to participate in the Tennessee Titians Regional Spelling Bee, their program is operated by another Scripps National Spelling Bee Regional Partner.

How do I qualify for the Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee?

Due to the state of Tennessee being so widespread, we have divided the counties into eight zones. A school within one of those zones must first conduct a school spelling bee to determine a champion. Each school champion will then advance to the Tennessee Titans Online Qualifier Bee. A pre-determined number of champions from each zone will advance to the final in-person Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee at Nissan Stadium.

Will the winner of the Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee, advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee?

Yes, the Tennessee Titans are proud to say the top two (2) spellers from the in-person final bee will advance. These two spellers will represent the Tennessee Titans at the Scripps National Spelling Bee's National Competition in May.

How do I enroll?

Schools interested in competing must first visit www.spellingbee.com/enroll to begin the enrollment process. School enrollment and payment are processed by the Scripps National Spelling Bee, not the Tennessee Titans.

Is there an enrollment fee?

The enrollment fee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee is $185 per school, until October 31, 2024, and $199 per school from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. There is no additional fee required to participate in the Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee.

How will I know what words to use for spelling bees?

The Scripps National Spelling Bee will provide each school, and final regional competition with a dedicated word list, along with study materials for students. School coordinators can locate school-level materials within their dedicated Educator Portal.
