With your touchdown catch, what did you see there from Cam as you were trying to keep that route and play alive?
Yeah, I know just from watching film with Cam (Ward), it's like, if you've got a scramble drill, because of the way his mind works and how good his arm is, it is not out of the question to just going to the opposite side of the field. Like, if you're going right and you feel like there's space on the left, run over there, he's probably going to see you. And so, I had done that early in the preseason, and he'd be seeing it, and he was like, I love that, like, do that again. So, that's just what I did. I'd seen the space on that other side of the field, and I'm going to run over there, and he saw me.
Did the ball feel like forever before it came down?
Like in my mind, he threw the ball. In my head, I'm like, 'Oh my God, I'm about to score.' But the ball just kept staying in the air the whole time. But eventually it came down and I caught it of course.
Who gets the game ball, you or Cam?
You want me to be honest? That's probably going to Cam (Ward). That's Cam's game ball, not mine. That's the number one pick's game ball. Maybe I'll get the laces on top.
As far as finishing the second half, what is it going to take for this team?
I feel like everybody just has to make one more play, myself included. We're just that close, one more explosive catch, one more explosive run, I actually think special teams did a really good job this game, and honestly, I think our special team is doing great. But just everybody just making one more play. I feel we're right there and we just didn't get it this time.
How tough was that, because to your point, you moved the ball, but too many times, probably had to settle for field goals?
Yeah, you never want to do that. You always want to put the football in the box. And some that we're going to have to address and work on it next week. But I'm just saying it's not like college, you can start slow in the season and still end up being a really good team. And so, we've just got to come back and keep doing the same thing in terms of putting in the work and trying to keep getting better.
How do you feel he (Cam Ward) held up today, obviously he was under pressure a lot, took some sacks, but yeah, he seemed to just keep getting up, coming back for more?
Cam's (Ward)— very, he has a very consistent personality. And so, I think that really helps him. And so when you have a quarterback like that, it really helps the team be able to trust him. Because everybody's going to make a bad play. But the thing that's very unique about Cam is he makes a bad play and that's it, he has a very short-term memory.
