Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans

Oilersmailbag

NASHVILLE – Welcome to April.

And welcome to another edition of the Titans mailbag.

We're going to start this one off with a question that I get asked on a weekly basis – about the Oilers uniforms.

So, let's get the latest, with input from the owner of the team...

Barzan Barzani from Nashville, Tennessee
Question:
Hey Jim. I have a quick question for ya: Have you heard anything about the Oilers throwback unis making a comeback this season or when we can expect them?

Jim: Well, Barzan, let's just say it's in the works. That's according to Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, who loves the Oilers history and wants to keep it alive any way possible. Presented with this question in conjunction with the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this week, this is what she said: "Oilers history is Titans history. We know our fans feel passionately about showcasing that legacy on game day, and we're actively working on making throwback jerseys possible in the near future. Stay tuned!"
So, there you have it. If all goes according to plan, the Titans will wear light blue jerseys from the Luv Ya' Blue era with white britches, with an Oilers helmet. Because of league stipulations, the earliest the combination could be worn, however, is 2023, and that's what franchise is shooting for. Stay tuned for more updates on this down the road.

Jason Petty from Lebanon, Tennessee
Question:
Hi Jim. I hope all is well with you and your family. My question is do you think or know if J.R. will try and make a move on a potential OL starter thru free agency? If not, in your opinion does the team have a guy right now that's at or near the Rodger Saffold lll talent capable of giving Dillon Radunz and any draft picks time to develop or claim that starting role? With Rodger being released and the trouble we had keeping R.T. from being sacked last year (I know some of its on him) I just don't see our OL improving YET? Thanks for your time. Have a great week.

Jim: Hey Jason. I think it's in play. Some guys are still out there and being considered, the GM said so himself. But the team is also getting deep into preparation for the NFL Draft, and some options are available there as well. Mike Vrabel said the plan is for Jamarco Jones to work at left guard at the start of his competition with the Titans, but he'll have to earn the job. And others will be in the competition, including Aaron Brewer. I'm expecting Radunz to be in the mix at right tackle. But again, I think you'll see some developments from a personnel standpoint on the line in the coming weeks and months.

William Young from Las Vegas, Nevada
Question:
Hi Jim, I don't won't to say this too loud in fear of other teams hearing this! I believe Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State could be another Randy Moss without the baggage!
Titans should draft him 26th, because he won't last long after that! Christian would open the Titans offense like never before with his big body and super speed!
No More 8 Men Box!

Jim: Thanks for the tip, William.

Willie Shaw from Nashville, Tennessee
Question:
I too am one of the few Titan/Dodgers fans here in Music City. How are you feeling about the Dodgers this year, especially with Freddie Freeman now donning Dodger Blue?
As for the Titans I'm looking forward to the upcoming draft, I expect a gamble like Jameson Williams in the first round from JRob and Co. Thank you for all that you do for us fans, if you ever want to grab a beer and watch the boys in blue I'd be happy to buy the first round!

Jim: Hey Willie. Good to hear from you! I am happy about Freddie Freeman, and personally, wouldn't be mad if the team picked Jameson Williams. He's talented, and he'd help the offense for sure. ... And maybe I'll take you up on that cold beer sometime!

Mike Ruark from Berlin, Maryland
Question:
Hey Jim, sorry to hear about your mother and I'm sending prayers and good vibes your way. My question is on Dillon Radunz. I'm hearing a lot of speculation that he's being viewed more as a G by the team. Is there some truth to that and if so do you think that means we go T in rd 1?

Jim: Hi Mike. Thank you. Last year Radunz worked in practices at guard and tackle. But I think he showed in the 49ers game he can hold his own on the outside at tackle. The thing about Dillon is I've always heard he's better suited to play on the left side than the right, but he can be coached up, and he can adjust. I think we'll get more answers about him when he competes in OTAs and minicamps and, of course, training camp. As for the draft, I think everything is in play on the o-line.

Hudson White from Bozeman, Montana
Question:
Hi, I was wondering how you were going to play Derrick Henry this season with all the defenses in the NFL catching on to how we are playing him?

Jim: Hey Hudson. Let's face it: Defenses haven't had much luck slowing him down, even when they know it's coming. What the Titans need to do in 2022 is be better across the board around him, which would take some pressure off of Derrick. Adding Robert Woods and Austin Hooper should help, but as others have mentioned, the o-line has some question marks as well.

Don Tohkubbi from Odessa, Texas
Question
: First off, I love your sarcasm! Makes me laugh! So my question is this…I know we beat some playoff teams last year and still made the #1 seed even though we used a lot of substitutes (some great coaching and management…a fact that most people seems to forget) my question is this…how good are these Titans, really? Can they get back to their 2021 form? I know it's too early to tell but I do have faith in our coaches and the front office but how excited should I get???

Jim: Sarcasm? Thanks. 😊 Well, last year's Titans were pretty good – until January 22. But your question is a fair one. The Titans did play a ton of guys last year, and some unheralded players stepped up. I'm not so sure that's a formula that can win year in and year out, though. The Titans need to stay healthier in 2022, but I know that's easier said than done. And, the team needs to draft well and have some of the new acquisitions step up.

Steven Crosio from Brick, New Jersey
Question:
Hey there Jim, here's my latest Mock Draft it includes trades with Seattle Seahawks and Cincinnati Bengals:
26: Skyy Moore WR Western Michigan
90: Dohnovan West C Arizona State
109: Jeremy Ruckert TE Ohio State
174: Sterling Weatherford S Miami (OH)
204: Tyquan Thornton WR Baylor
209: LaBryan Ray EDGE Alabama

Jim: I'll pass this on to the GM, Steven.

Jack Walker from Calabasas, California
Question:
Hey Jim. Seems like NOW is the perfect time to talk about the draft. Here are some of my favorites. Jalen Wydermyer can be "our Kelce/Gronk" type offensive weapon... I imagine we're going to lose at least one of our LB's and we have several "gray beards" back there... how about Nakobe Dean? And I like our WR room with 2 of the planet's best "big guys" so how about John Metchie III as the rocket? And then draft the best available OL...
SO trade to get back into the 2nd round... and
1) Nakobe Dean LB, GA
2) Jalen Wydermyer TE, T-A&M
3) Metchie III WR, AL

Jim: Hey Jack. I like all these guys, but I don't see Metchie falling far enough for the Titans to get him this late...

Have a great weekend everyone!
