ask-jim-mailbag-mike-borgonzi

NASHVILLE – The 2025 Titans season is now officially behind us.

The search for the franchise's next head coach is under way.

It's the start of a busy offseason.

Let's discuss it all in here…

Here's the link to submit questions: CLICK HERE.

Robert Murphy from Nashville, Tennessee
Question: Waddup Jim. Done popped in a couple of times just to read and see what Titans fans think and how they feel but my question is what kind of coach you think we need to turn this thing around. Who are top candidates?

Jim: Hey Robert. Well, there are a lot of candidates in the mix. I'm sure you've seen the names tossed out there the last few days. I'm not going to name the "top candidates" because it's not up to me, and I know a lot of folks have different opinions on who those guys might be. The reality is Mike Borgonzi's opinion is the one that matters most since the owner put him in charge of the search. I feel like this is a good time to share how we're going to be handling this process as a team, from how news is going to be dispersed/confirmed, whatever you want to call it. In years past, the team indicated when interviews were completed, one by one. I remember writing 11 different stories on the first-round of coaching interviews back in 2024, then more stories when second interviews took place, before Brian Callahan was ultimately hired. I've noticed some teams are doing that in this cycle. This year we're going to be doing it in waves, and in groupings. Roughly a half-dozen guys have already interviewed, and at some point in the near future, we'll put out that list here at tennesseetitans.com. Next week, another group of candidates will interview, and we'll share that list as well. Then there will be a second wave of interviews, I'm thinking the week of January 19, as the candidates getting narrowed down to a few. Borgonzi said this week he doesn't have a timetable on when the organization plans to make a hire, so we'll see how long this whole process lasts. Stay tuned. It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out, especially with more coaches entering the pool of candidates. Will there be more after this weekend's games? Again, stay tuned.

Steve Crosio from Toms River, New Jersey
Question: Hey there Jim, with Mike Borgonzi calling the shots in the Head Coach search should we assume that Matt Nagy is going to be the Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans regardless of how wide the search is?

Jim: It's wide-ranging, Steve. I wouldn't assume anything. I think there's a saying related to that…

Greg Spears from Tulsa, Oklahoma
Question: Hi Jim. Thanks for the great coverage. Long time Oilers /Titans fan. All my friends were Cowboys fans so I picked the Oilers. Has there ever been a team have the number 1 pick and then have the toughest schedule in the league?

Jim: Appreciate it, Greg. Not that I'm aware of. Doesn't seem right, huh? But that's how it went down. The Titans, with a .574 strength of schedule, did in fact have the NFL's toughest schedule in 2025. But the team lost a tiebreaker to the Raiders (.538), Jets (.552) and Cardinals (.571) since the tiebreaker is based off strength of schedule. It's a real double whammy.

Ken Ospital from Alexandria, Virginia
Question: First and foremost, thank you for doing what you do. You are exceptional.
Now, down to business. The Titans need to do everything in their power to hire John Harbaugh. They cannot afford to swing and miss on another coach. They should've never fired Vrabel - that was obviously a huge mistake (and I hope the owner owns that mistake too or else she'll make it again).
Harbaugh or bust!

Jim: Appreciate it, Ken. I like Harbaugh myself, but remember, this is a two-way street. I'm sure Harbaugh will have plenty of suitors.

Dimitrios Jimmy Kosmas from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Question: Hello Jimbo Wyatt
Let me start with, always upstanding work my friend, well done 👏
Thanks for getting questions answered, also your social media content has been great. You seem more involved in a "young man's" game, jk, hahaha
But I've thought about sending you a message, about things that I've realized just about 4 years into my journey. I have added most things to my sobriety list, and I believe I'm going to try and get rid of 1 of the last 2 in 2026, which are smoking cigarettes and Mary Jane.
When I started writing into you in 2021 I believe, you happened to find out you were going to be my digital diary, venting post, but most importantly my inspiration to writing.
Thank you sir
Honestly thank you for acknowledging me even when I was being overbearing.
I'm going to segue in and out of this awkwardness as quickly as possible. I'm sorry bro, its not your job to tell me, what a teacher should be.
I hope you can push aside my being a little "Stan-ish" over a response to if you liked any of
"Tell me you're a Titan Fan, With, telling me you're a Titan fan"
I'm happy I used it and you to start my sobriety story.
It took my mind off things, it gave me a purpose to be happy about a to-do list.
The true sign of your character showed, by still answering my quality Titan fan questions.
You're a great man Mr Wyatt
Thank you for being a cool dude, and thank you for your column Ask Jim.
My life could be completely different without it, that is a 100% true statement.
From your friend from Canada 🇨🇦
Dimitrios Jimmy the Greek Kosmas
Titan Up!!

Jim: Good to hear from you, Dimitrios. It's been a while. It sounds like you're doing great. I appreciate the kind words and for continuing to read. Keep on trucking and doing your best! Hopefully this team can do more to lift you up in the coming year.

Jimmy Warren from Houston, Texas
Question: Hello, Jim how is it going? 1st time iv ever reached out to you on here but, I just wanted to see if maybe you could possibly pass this along to the front office "absolutely do not hire Matt Nagy"! I can already see where this decision will be heading and that's going to be yet another set back and they are to much on the line to go backwards. With that being said, tell Amy to open that check book and pay Mike McCarthy whatever he wants to come to Nashville and for Mike Borgonzi pass this along This offense needs only two players out this draft to improve this team and win more games especially behind Mike McCarthy so it doesn't matter about the rest the draft cause you will have to move back up top 15 to 20 get the 2nd guy and those picks are Jerimihya Love and Denzel Boston!!!! This will give you two top 10 players at their position two star caliber players for 2026 and beyond. So Don't sleep on this idea cause it's the key to refinding success and with that stadium on the verge of opening this is the splash and golden ticket you need to put some asses in that 1.2 billion dollar stadium.. good day Jim love your work man!!!!!!

Jim: Hey Jimmy. I'll pass the word along. I always find it interesting how some fans love certain candidates, and hate others. I've heard from fans who like Nagy, and others like yourself who are hoping he's not the hire. The same can be said for McCarthy, and probably every person on the list I bet. The reality is we're probably not going to know if the Titans get this right or not until a few years down the road. If it's sooner than that (as we saw this past October), that means it wasn't going well. We sure don't want to go down that road again…

Patrick Keeley from Aurora, Illinois
Question: Hi Jim, I hope you had a good holiday.
Funny thing was I was going to email you before this game and say that the Titans should let Brandon Allen play the last game just to see how he would do and let Cam observe from the sidelines to learn more about the game. I just felt that it wasn't worth playing him given the fact that Jacksonville was going to play all out to get the division title.
Your thoughts?
PS…I haven't hear much about Levis. Was he in the sidelines for the games? 😳

Jim: Hey Patrick. Borgonzi was asked about Levis this week, and indicated he's still in the team's plans for 2026. Of course we need to see what the next head coach thinks about him. I feel like this is one we'll have to monitor this offseason. … I don't agree the team should have sat Cam for the finale. It's unfortunate he got hurt, but I agreed with the decision to play him.

Gary Golliher from Florida
Question: How about Mike McDaniel for head coach? Even record- new Quarterback - fresh start.

Jim: Well, he's available. I suspect he'll have a job somewhere in 2026, either as a head coach or an OC.

Hector Hernandez from Teziutlan, Puebla; Mexico
Question: Que tal Jim buena tarde!!

Cathryn T from Winslow, Maine
Question: Hi Jim, thanks for covering the season so well year in and year out. Mike mentioned in the presser today a letter from Amy about the structure, but it's not on X, Instagram, or the team site. Is there something more you can share here?

Jim: Hi Cathryn. I actually wrote a story about the structure change last week.
Here's that story: https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/titans-controlling-owner-amy-adams-strunk-shares-front-office-updates-in-letter-to-fans

Ed Perry from Westmoreland, Tennessee
Question: Mr Wyatt and to Borgonzi why not Bill Belichick? Everyone knows what he's done with rookie Tom Brady and the Patriots. Look what Brady became. No other current NFL coach could touch Belichick s knowledge and ability except for Andy Reid.

Jim: Hey Ed. Belichick had a heck of a run with the Patriots. I haven't heard he's ready to leave North Carolina.

Jeremy Rodriguez from Winchester, California
Question: Well Jim, 18 weeks later and I had better hopes than 3 wins. It's been great chatting with you this season. I look forward to seeing what changes are made and how this team will look next year. Here's to the offseason!! Happy New Year and as always TITAN UP!!!

Jim: Happy New Year Jeremy!

Sam Bingham from Tuscon, Arizona
Question: Hello Jim , been a very long season for us fans very painful cause you wait all 7 months hoping that this will be the year. That the Titan nation is seating watching like in years pass as to if they get a first round bye like they did when Tannehill was quarterback and King Henry was back there funny how Vrabel was the coach at the time and look where he at right now. Those were the days . Let's hope they pick a coach that's going to develop Cam and focus on that secondary and O-Line and get more defensive Line so they can rotate the players so they're not so damn tired by the fourth quarter like they used to in the past poor Jeffery is so gased by the fourth lots to work on but if Mike can do it for New England. Mrs Adams just needs to want a winning organization again "Luv Ya Blue" Thank You Jim get job you do and Listening to us Fans

Jim: Thanks for chiming in, Sam.

Alan Walker from Alcoa, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim! It feels like I just woke up from a weeks long bad dream! Now, new optimism can start to bloom, but my optimism is going to be cautious going forward. The bright side is that it seems we have finally found our QB, and despite what anyone says, the guy is tough! I have plenty of opinions, but I will just hold my tongue for now. Thanks for your hard work this season, and I hope you can slow down for a bit. Just wait until next year…..!

Jim: Appreciate it, Alan. Thanks for reading.

Joni Daniels from Antioch, Tennessee
Question: Even after the loss to Jacksonville on Sunday, I am optimistic about the 2026 Titans. Cam Ward is on his way to being an elite quarterback. With his rookie year now under his belt he has a better understanding of what it will take to take the next step. I have always been and will continue to be a loyal Titans PSL/Season Ticket holder and supporter! GO TITANS!!!!

Jim: I like the optimism and loyalty, Joni. Happy New Year!

Ed Helinski from Auburn, New York
Question: Jim, Happy New Year to you. May 2026 be your best ever!
Here's my question- If you had an opportunity to give this Titans season a movie title - what would it be?

Jim: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Have a great weekend everyone!
