NASHVILLE – Training camp is now officially over for the Tennessee Titans.
The team wraps up the preseason on Saturday night against the Bears, before roster cuts on Sunday.
Then the focus will turn to the regular season opener on September 13 against the New York Jets.

Question: Based on your observations who will be a part of the starting offensive line for the first game of the season? How many offensive linemen will they keep and who will they be. Will we be significantly better than last year at those positions. Thanks for your great reporting.
Jim: Thanks for the question, ML. I think five spots are set – LT Dan Moore, LG Peter Skoronski, C Austin Schlottmann, and RT JC Latham. Fernando Carmona is in line to win the RG spot, and to start, in part because he's performed well, but partly because some other guys haven't. So, this very well could be the starting five. But … don't rule out the possibility of the team claiming a guard off waivers, or trading for one. Is there another Josh Kline (blast from the past) out there? Definitely some things to work through and consider here.

Question: Hi Jim. Been a Titans fan since they moved to my hometown from Houston the McNair/Eddie days were golden. My question is how do you think Restrepo played this week, and do you think he stands a good shot at making the team?
Jim: Hey Jonathan. Well, I think X will be around in some capacity. Could it be in the 53? Or will it be on the practice squad? I think he's sixth on the depth chart at best, and eighth at worst. I think he might be second on the depth chart in the slot. If I'm making the call, I'd keep him, but that could end up on the practice squad.

Question: When the Titans announced a rebrand of their uniforms one thing I was excited about was having a new number font. The last number font wasn't my favorite. So when the new uniforms came out I thought we were done with that font, until I came to the scrimmage. The old number font is still being used on the field for the yard lines. Do you know if they plan to update the numbers on the field to the new number font before the season starts?
Jim: Hey Jason. I know I ran this question a few mailbags ago, and told you I'd get an answer.
So, here it is: The reason the team didn't change the font is because all the numbers are stitched into the field. If the team redid all of them, then there would be a lot of seams on the field where the numbers were replaced. Also, the greens may not match. The numbers, with the new fonts, will be changed in the new stadium.

Question: My man Jim! Hope all is well .. my question is about Hendon Hooker. I remember a time where fans wanted to tear the organization down for selecting Levis in the draft while Hooker was still available. We now have Hooker on our roster and some fans are calling for him to be traded. My question is what are we actually doing with the guy? He doesn't take many reps, if any. Do you see a scenario where we trade him? Or is he merely a depth piece? Appreciate everything you do
Jim: Hey Andrew. Hey Andrew. I think Hendon's future in some ways might be tied to what happens with Will Levis. Hendon played in last week's preseason game, of course, but he hasn't thrown a pass in competitive drills in practice since July 29. But it seems the team might be keeping him around for a reason. We'll see. If Levis is released, or traded, then Hendon moves up a notch, and could be in line to be the No.3., or practice squad QB. The team could, of course, decide to keep Will, or move on from Hendon either way. A lot TBD here, but again, my hunch is his fate is probably tied to Will.

Jim: Hola, Adrian. Bueno, mi intuición es que el equipo se quedará con dos y pondrá a uno en el equipo de prácticas. Los esquineros tuvieron una buena semana de entrenamiento, especialmente Alontae Taylor. Question: As a Houstonian and a Titans fan who stuck with the team through the move, I feel we need a history lesson. Too many people seem to have forgotten some important details of what happened between 1995-2002.
First off, to my Houstonians who somehow feel the team was stolen from them, I'd like to remind them that NO ONE FOUGHT FOR THE OILERS during that time. There was a Save the Oilers rally at City Hall that had 65 people attend it. The last Houston Oiler game had 15,000 people in attendance. So while Cleveland fans were storming the NFL offices and literally tearing their stadium apart when the move to Baltimore was announced, the situation in Houston was complete apathy.
Second, Houston was not promised a new NFL team. The reason there were 3 years (1999-01) with 31 team was because no ownership groups in Los Angeles could come together on a stadium deal, allowing Bob McNair to swoop in and become the 32nd owner. The Texans became the Texans, not Oilers Part 2. They are their own team with a new history. Embrace it, it's yours.
Based on the above points, this current weird obsession with Oilers colors and lore (hey, I think the Texans rivalry uniforms look great, but come on we know what you're doing) is just unnecessary. We are several decades down the road, and much like those who go through divorce you can either wallow in the past, or choose a new path to happiness.
Anyway, I'm less concerned with uniforms and more about how the players play in them, let's get back to football! Take care, Jim.
Jim: I hear ya, JB. I'll be honest, I spend zero time thinking about the Texans (except for when I get questions like this, or when the Titans play them). Sure, I respect them, and I acknowledge they've had a better team in recent years. But I do get the sense Texans fans are obsessed with the Titans, and everything this team does. I will say your history lesson is spot on.

I am surprised at the number of so called "FANS" that has given up on the owner and staff of this Titan team. I wish they would give the team a chance to play before selling them out. (We've played two second preseason games) and I do agree the first game last week looked sort of not up to the standard we need but it has been almost a year since the players have played. Question: Happy 2026 Season! Well this preseason is not starting well. Two weeks and the defense is not looking promising. I know it's preseason and I think that is even more alarming. Question: Jim, I'm concerned. While I anticipated that there would be offensive struggles, complicated by the growing pains of a new scheme and a young QB, I expected the defense to be significantly better, especially the run defense. I mean, come on!...the D-Line is the strength of the team! And the first team defense was terrible against Seattle second stringers on all fronts!
Now I admit that it's a little early for three exclamation points on back to back sentences (actually, it's a first for me) but I'm jaded. Help me out, Jim. Give me something to hang onto other than 'relax...it's just preseason'.

Sorry, it's just hard to tell at this juncture. Keep in mind the Titans are 7-1 in their last eight preseason games, and 6-28 in the regular season the past two seasons. I've seen teams look good in the preseason, and then end up being terrible. I've seen teams look terrible in the preseason, and then turn out to be good.

Question: Hey Jim, I hope all is well my friend. I really don't have a Team/ Origination question this time. But I do have a proposal that the organization honor you with an award or massive bump in pay or something. To deal with us fans can be a good and bad thing I'm sure. It can be a Rollercoaster i am betting. Yes I/ we come in and vent or jump on the bandwagon depending how things go this week in practice or games. But to have a "Professional " YouTube watcher constantly come in and attack a team he SUPPOSEDLY is a fan of is driving me nuts, so I can only imagine how you feel when you're the first to come across his malice intent. I openly admit I'm a pessimistic person and get angry at the team very easily during the down times. But Damn man, here we are running vanilla schemes and plays in the PRESEASON and real fans see the down side but are trying to look for positive play. Not come in to your mailbag and Monday morning Qb from their YouTube chair. His imitation of Stephen A. Smith isn't getting him put on any news crews or sports talk shows. Question: Hi other Jim! Titan Up! I think Cam looked a little better (vs Seattle). I'm fine with him throwing checkdowns and not trying to force any deep passes. If the defense gives you that, take it. I would like to see maybe a few more deep passes be completed, but with only 2 possessions there is only so much Cam can do. I would like to see him clean up the little mistakes like intentional grounding and fumbling on a scramble, but I know this will come with time. Do you think game 3 we try to get Tate the ball any way possible? Just for a confidence boost before the season.
Is there anyone in next years draft that you like? We will probably win 6 games this year and get a top 10 draft pick. Any offensive lineman or other players you like? I know a lot can happen between now and next year. I believe we are 1 maybe 2 good draft picks away from being good.
How much does preseason success affect how much a player plays in the regular season? I'm looking at Truman and Xavier. They both have been hustling both games. Truman got 1.5 sacks last game and Xavier is tied for the most receptions for the titans this preseason. Like I said above 6 ish wins this season so why not test out some of these other guys. Maybe we find a diamond in the rough.
Lastly, our defense got picked apart again (vs Seattle). Whats going on? We made some good signings and they are playing in the preseason. Are they afraid to get hurt so they aren't trying as hard? I have a hard time believing these competitors would do that.
Jim: Hey Jim. I'd definitely try to get Tate involved in the preseason finale. He's coming off his best practice of training camp on Thursday. ... I'm not going to start talking about next year's draft yet, sorry … I like Truman, and after Jaylen Harrell's season-ending injury, he has a real shot to make it … It's too early to dog the defense. I need to see some regular season games, when the team is game planning – and playing more than 20 snaps.

Question: I'm very optimistic about this season, but I'm also, in my opinion, staying grounded in reality. My expectation for this season is that the first 4-5 games will feature a few sparks of greatness but more frustration and missed opportunities than highlights.
So watching the first 2 preseason games, I'm not super surprised to see our team struggle, but I think after a rocky start, figuring it out in the first 4-5 games, things will start to click and we'll finish the season strong.
Is my expectation on track? That we shouldn't expect everything to be "fixed" by game 1? That it will take several games to really get things going?
Jim: I do think this team, because it is so young, will get better as the season goes. How good/or how bad will it be to start the regular season? Well, we're going to find out soon.
