NASHVILLE – When Titans quarterback Cam Ward escaped the pocket and rolled to his right on Sunday, a defender chasing after him, receiver Elic Ayomanor knew exactly what to do.
"It's all improvisation," Ayomanor said. "A good portion of the NFL touchdowns is scored on the scramble drill, and we know that. So, we work on the scramble drill, and we watch film.
"I know what (Cam) is thinking, and he knows what I am thinking."
Ward gave a small hand motion to Ayomanor, who sprinted to the opposite end zone to run down a nine-yard touchdown pass from Ward in the first half of Sunday's game against the Rams.
After just two games, here's what a lot of Titans fans are probably thinking:
-Ward has looked pretty good, and in time, the rookie could prove to be special for the Titans.
-Ayomanor, also a rookie, has some skills himself, and it's going to be fun watching these guys together.
Ward, for the record, said he knew this from the day they were both drafted.
"I've always had confidence in him since day one," Ward said of Ayomanor. "I knew it from the jump. Me and him went to the rookie premier. We had workouts. Me and him both wake up, work out and we throw in the hotel room. I just knew me and him would connect on a lot of plays this season."
A fourth-round pick of the Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ayomanor made four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's game vs the Rams.
In addition to his touchdown catch, Ayomanor also had a nifty grab on the sideline, when he pinned the football against his shoulder pads, using just one hand.
In two games this season, Ayomanor has six catches for 69 yards and the score.
Ayomanor, who played at Stanford, only wishes Sunday's success would have come in a win.
"I feel like everybody just has to make one more play, myself included," he said. "We're just that close, one more explosive catch, one more explosive run, I actually think special teams did a really good job this game, and honestly, I think our special team is doing great. But, just everybody making one more play. I feel we're right there and we just didn't get it this time."
