Titans to Take Part in Joint Practice with Falcons Aug. 6 in Dalton, GA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans will take part in a joint training camp practice with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, Aug. 6 (4:30 p.m., ET) at Coahulla Creek High School in Dalton, Ga.

The session will be free and open to the public.

"I think going against other teams is good in general for your team, especially when you have a young team like we do," Titans head coach Mike Munchak said.

Dalton is 160 miles from Nashville, nearly midway between Atlanta and Nashville off I-75, offering both fan bases a chance to get an early glimpse of their 2012 teams. The Titans will bus down and back the day of the practice.

The session is expected to consist of one padded practice against each other.

Munchak discussed the idea with Falcons coach Mike Smith a year ago, but the NFL lockout created too many challenges to pull off. This year, both sides were able to work out the logistics.

"You can really have a nice organized practice with a good football team and work your first and second groups quite a bit without worrying about injuries like you would in a preseason game, " Munchak said.  "I think it's a great opportunity to be on the bus – the bonding experience of traveling together, going to a practice session together and getting a lot of reps against people that you're not as familiar with."

Both clubs hope the event can develop into an annual tradition between the franchises, one that started in 1997 with a joint scrimmage in Chattanooga and later had the Falcons practicing against the Titans at Baptist Sports Park in 2004.

"I think it's just another opportunity for people to come out and watch you play that normally don't have a chance," Munchak said. "In this part of the country there are Titans fans and Falcons fans. There are people that like both teams, so I think it's a good thing when you can create that kind of atmosphere where fans can come out, spend an evening watching football and hopefully enjoy what they see."
