NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans safety Kevin Byard knows his way around the football field, but on Tuesday he found himself in unfamiliar territory.
Byard, one of six players involved in surprising Titans fans with season tickets, made a stop at Volunteer Welding Supply in Nashville.
Before the end of the visit he was checking out the supplies, and trying on welding helmets.
"I don't know how to do any welding or anything," Byard said with a smile.
"Well, we can show you," replied a group of employees.
It was part of a fun day when Titans players visited with fans across the city. In offices across Nashville, players dropped off season tickets and jerseys while meeting with fans. Byard was joined by cornerback Logan Ryan at four stops, while defensive lineman Jurrell Casey and cornerback Adoree' Jackson were a part of two other stops -- at Southern Trophy House and American Pipe and Supply.
Titans center Ben Jones and linebacker Will Compton were a part of three stops as well -- at Rogers Inc, Wasco Inc and Kenny Pipe & Supply.
"We want to give back and show them how much we appreciate them coming out and supporting us on game day," Jones said. "It is something we can do to get them fired up for the season. We are happy to do it."
At Volunteer Welding Supply, Ryan and Byard met with John Mark McMurty, a season ticket member since the team's first game in Nashville in 1999.
"This is your golden ticket right here," Ryan said. "I appreciate you being a season ticket member, and KB does, and all the Titans do. .. We appreciate your hard-earned money coming our way. We are going to make you proud. We are going to win some games for you this year."
The Titans have made a habit of delivering season tickets to fans.
Casey has been a part of the season ticket delivery for years. At the end of the stop at Volunteer Welding Supply, employees gathered around Byard and Ryan, outfitted in welding helmets, for a selfie.
"It is a blessing," Jackson said. "It is nice to get out and see the fans, and see the smiles on their faces. I am here to put a smile on somebody else's face."
