Titans Rookie Adoree' Jackson Ready for TD that Counts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –** Titans return man Adoree' Jackson can't catch a break.

Coverage units can't seem to catch Jackson either.

Jackson, the 18th overall pick of the 2017 draft from Southern California, returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown on Sunday against the Seahawks. Only it was called back because of a penalty.

It marked the second time Jackson had a punt return called back for a touchdown in the NFL – he also took one to the house against the Panthers in the preseason, and it was called back, too.

Jackson's not mad.

"It's still all smiles from my standpoint," Jackson said, "because I know everything is on God's time. And at least everybody can get a glimpse of what it can look like when one finally breaks free."

Jackson, a starter at cornerback, is one of the team's most exciting players. He's been especially fun to watch in the return game. Jackson provided a big spark with a 46-yard punt return in Week 2 at Jacksonville, and he's currently third in the NFL in punt return average (13.9 yards). Heck, Jackson leaped over Oakland's punter in the opener.

"I just enjoy being able to display what I can do in games," Jackson said. "I am just thankful I have been blessed to be able to do the things I am doing, even though the touchdowns have been getting called back."

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said he feels bad about Jackson's bad luck. Mularkey believes Jackson would've scored even without the illegal block thrown by running back David Fluellen against the Seahawks.

"I do (feel bad)," Mularkey said. "I feel bad for him and us."

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota believes one is coming soon.

"He'll find one for sure," Mariota said of Jackson. "Those guys just continue to block and he'll hit a crease for sure."

Jackson said he isn't sweating the ones that have been called back.

At USC, Jackson returned four punts for touchdowns, and four kickoffs for scores. Could the third time be the charm on Sunday? The Texans are ranked 30th in the NFL in punt coverage.

"You can't get frustrated, you can't get down," he said. "You just have to take it one play at a time. What is funny is right before that play (against Seattle), one of the Seahawks told me, "This ain't college no more 25. He said stop trying to get those extra yards 25, this ain't college no more. And then the next punt is the one I broke. So I'm not mad. I know one is going to come eventually."

And, in Jackson's mind, it's not like it didn't happen at all.

"Hey, if I make a highlight tape, that one will be on there," he said with a smile. "My kids don't have to know (it was called back). They're going to think their dad was awesome."
