NASHVILLE – Titans quarterback Cam Ward wants to change the subject.
He'll get a chance to do just that on Sunday in Baltimore.
"Just attacking another opportunity," Ward said on Wednesday, "and getting to go against another good team in the Ravens, getting a chance to go against an elite defense. It's going to be an exciting game for us for sure."
Ward acknowledged, however, he must play better, and he's working to make that happen.
Ward is coming off a game against the Giants when he was 23-of-36 for 181 yards and a touchdown.
But his errant throw – which was intercepted in the end zone in the closing seconds of a 12-7 loss – has been the biggest subject of discussion all week after the team's loss to the Giants.
"I just don't think I played my best in critical situations," Ward said. "You look at over the course of the game, it was good to win. But when I needed to play my best, I didn't. And that's something I have to get better at. It's something I have to attack this week going into the next game.
"But it is something you get to learn from … and you make sure it doesn't happen again in the future."
Through three games, Ward has completed 55-of-88 passes for 504 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.
Through 20 career games, Ward has provided some good moments, and some not-so-good ones.
In his first 20 games, Ward has just eight interceptions on 628 passing attempts. He is one of four QBs in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to have at least 600 attempts and eight or fewer interceptions through 20 games, joining Dak Prescott, CJ Stroud and Caleb Williams.
But the Titans are just 3-17 in those games, all Ward starts, and the Titans have struggled to consistently move the ball on offense.
Ward has faced criticism along the way, but he said this is the job he signed up for – to be an NFL quarterback.
"I asked for this position, it is one of the best positions in the world," Ward said. "So, (adversity) comes with the job at the end of the day. I need to play better, and we need to win more games. I think if we do that, a lot of stuff will take care of itself."
