Three Quick Hits from Thursday's Practice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —** The Titans just wrapped up practice on Thursday at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

On Sunday, the team will face the Los Angeles Rams at Nissan Stadium.

Three quick hits:

Secondary update**

Titans cornerback LeShaun Sims has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Rams because the hamstring injury he suffered in Wednesday's practice.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey indicated the injury could be a season-ender for Sims, who has played in 13 games this season, with five starts. It was Sims who had the game-saving interception late against the Texans on December 3.

Titans cornerback Logan Ryan also missed practice again on Thursday with an ankle injury.

On Wednesday, Mularkey discussed cornerback Kalan Reed after practice.

Today, he was asked about cornerback Tye Smith, who could also be in the mix if Ryan can't play. Smith has played in 13 games, but primarily on special teams. He does have one of the team's 10 interceptions, however.

"He had a really good practice today, I mean really good," Mularkey said of Smith. "He hasn't had a lot of defensive reps, the majority of his time has been on special teams. He's actually been very productive. He had a good camp for us. He's going to have to play this game, based on if Logan (Ryan) doesn't, he's going to have to get some more reps. We feel good about it."

"He's the real deal"

Rams running back Todd Gurley leads the NFL with 17 touchdowns, and he ranks 2nd in team history with 1,817 scrimmage yards.

He's one of two backs in team history (Eric Dickerson, 1983) with 1,800 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns in the team's first 14 games. He had 180 scrimmage yards (152 rush, 28 rec.) last week and a career high four touchdowns.

Needless to say, the Titans have a big challenge on Sunday.

"He is very good," defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said of Gurley. "He is a compact, powerful back who has enough speed once he gets through a tight crack. … You see some major gaining plays from him every game. He's the real deal."

Other injuries

When discussing Ryan's injury, Mularkey said, "I'm not going to count him out just yet."

Defensive lineman Karl Klug (groin) did not practice again Thursday, and the Titans are going to "see if we can get some work from him tomorrow," Mularkey said.

Linebacker Nate Palmer (illness) also did not practice.

Quarterback Brandon Weeden was back at practice after being excused on Wednesday.
