NASHVILLE – The Titans returned to the practice field on Tuesday at Vanderbilt Health Football Clinic.
Here's a look at 10 observations from today's session:
-The Titans made a bunch of plays on defense, especially in the secondary. Cornerback Alontae Taylor, safety Kevin Winston Jr., safety Tony Adams and cornerback Mario Goodrich III all had interceptions in today's practice. I thought the crew played scrappy, even while giving up some scoring plays in a "Strikezone" period. The offense had to work for everything it got, and the defense made things messy.
-It wasn't a great day for quarterback Cam Ward and the first team offense. I had Ward at 7-of-16 in the 7-on-7 and team periods combined. Winston got him on an early interception, and Taylor got him in the next period. Taylor sprinted the other direction after his INT. Ward had a few nice moments, though, as he threw a pair of touchdown passes. We'll get to that next.
-It was receiver Wan'Dale Robinson who caught both of the touchdown passes thrown by Ward, both on pretty short passes. Robinson had three catches on the day, and I now have him with a team-best 52 catches in camp, including the two joint practices with the 49ers and Seahawks.
-Running back Nick Singleton returned to practice after missing a week with an injury. Singleton was busy running the football, and he also caught three passes, including one that went for a touchdown.
-It was quarterback Mitchell Trubisky who threw the short touchdown passes to Singleton. Trubisky was 13-of-19 on the day, and it was Adams who picked him off. Will Levis was 9-of-13 on the day, and it was Goodrich who got him.
-Receiver Xavier Restrepo had one of the biggest highlights of the day, catching a pass in the corner thrown by Trubisky. I had Restrepo with three catches on the day as well.
-Rookie linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. had two run stuffs early, and safety Kendell Brooks had the best pass break-up of the day. I noticed defensive end Jermaine Johnson II in the backfield on what would have been a sack.
-Tight end Kylen Granson led the team with four catches on Tuesday, including one that went for a touchdown, on a ball thrown by Will Levis. As mentioned previously, Singleton, Robinson and Restrepo all had three catches each, and Gunnar Helm and Chimere Dike had two catches each.
-Receiver Mason Kinsey continues to have fun out here, and he was part of a pretty funny moment toward the end of practice. After catching a pass from Levis, Kinsey sprinted to the left pylon and he passed it. Thinking he'd scored, Kinsey stopped and punted the football into the air in celebration. Officials, however, ruled Kinsey down at the one. Later in the period, Levis connected with tight end David Martin-Robinson for a score.
-Defensive end Keldric Faulk remains sidelined, and three other Titans didn't practice either: Running back Kalel Mullings, linebacker Dorian Mausi and center Andre James. Mullings worked on a side field.
