TE Michael Mayer

On the impact the defense had on today's game...

Michael Mayer: "Huge. Yeah, they've been great all season long man, they really have. Maxx [Crosby] – I've been going against him in practice for three years, and he sucks, he really does, going against, not stopping. The defense did a heck of a job. It's all three phases of the game, special teams, offense, defense, it kind of all came together today, which is really good, and we're going to strive for that every single game."

On what a win does to the team in terms of ignoring "the outside noise"...

Mayer: "Yeah, we're not worried about the outside noise in this locker room. We've got each other; this is a brotherhood coaches, the organization, us. Yeah, we're in this together, man, were not worried about what everyone else is saying."

On the short passing game and just getting the ball in space...

Mayer: "Yeah, I think sometimes, if they're getting some pressure to Geno [Smith], sometimes it's good to just go quick with it and it worked out for us today. Geno does a good job of finding the open receiver when we are going quick. We've got to find the holes, we've got to find the spaces, "Is its zone, is it a man, do I have to speed this route up," things like that. We'll go back and look at it. I don't know exactly the type of game -- I had some catches and some blocks, and I've got to go back and check the game. But Geno did a good job."

On how the offense changes when the tight ends get involved...

Mayer: "Yeah, I think we've got a really good tight end room. I do. I think when Brock [Bowers] gets back, it's going to be even better. I think that in terms of what me and Ian [Thomas] can do is he can block, and he can also run routes, he can get open, he can find the open space, things like that. I think that brings problems to a defense. Whenever you can do that. You've got plenty of teams with tight ends that they'll throw them in there, and you know it's going to be a run, you know it's going to be a pass. I think we've got a good little mix within this tight end room. Chip [Kelly] does a really good job stacking, the tight ends coach [Luke Steckel] does a really good job coaching us up, and we're just going to keep stacking, man, we're going to keep going."
