S Kevin Byard

221113-final

What can you say about this win today, with so many guys out?

Man, it was great, obviously. Didn't feel like we started the game the way that we wanted to. I don't feel like the energy was really there. It wasn't really detailed with what we were doing. And we gave the extra, on third down, that big play. But other than that, I feel like we really settled down especially the in the second half. Guys were battling their butts off. Obviously, we know that's what we're going to do. We're going to battle. But I just think going forward, especially on a short week in Green Bay, we just have to be a little bit tighter on our details.

With the offense struggling the way they were in the first half, how much did you guys take it upon yourselves to keep things in order?

Yeah, that's the way we've played all year. We know that we might not get 30 points, 20-something points. But we kind of play it calm every time, like no matter what happens, when a fumble happens, like when Malik (Willis) fumbled, we're like, 'So what? We've got to play ball.' We got a three-and-out. That was a huge draw for us. That might be the biggest job of the defense for us, during that game. But like I said, we're always going to battle. We're going to keep fighting. But I just felt like our details can just be a little bit better.

How about their final drive? How are you guys able to keep them out of the end zone?

Just practice in those situations. Always in practice, those two-minute drills. Make it to the sideline. Getting the calls. Make sure we're communicating. And obviously, those last couple of plays, during the timeouts, had to come to the sideline and get some small little details and figure it out. But like I said, guys just battling out there, man. Just what we do. We want to be the last team, or the last face on the field to go out there and win the game for the team.

With starters out and injuries everywhere, how have other guys have been able to just step up and step right in? You guys know that in the locker room, but explain how is that possible?

DeMarcus (Walker) has been playing all year. It's not like he hasn't played. So, all these guys have played. They've been in the defense. It's not like they're new guys just getting started. Kind of like a team early in the year, they've been here and they've been making plays. But guys go down. That's opportunity for another guy. That's the way this league goes. So, you have to be happy for a guy that takes advantage of his opportunities. That's the way we play ball. I'm happy for those guys.
