NASHVILLE, Tenn. –** Quick Hits and Observations from Day 12 of Titans Training Camp

Here's what you need to know …

What stood out

• Roster spots will be tough to come by at the receiver position, but Tre McBride isn't going down without a fight. McBride has made some nice plays in camp, and his best so far might've come on Wednesday. With defensive back Kalan Reed draped on him, McBride managed to come down with a nice catch in the corner of the end zone midway through practice.

• Tight end Phillip Supernaw was stirring things up with some playful verbal jabs in one-on-one drills. After making a catch against linebacker Wesley Woodyard, Supernaw tossed the ball at Woodyard after a defensive holding call. Later, after beating safety Kevin Byard to catch a pass, Supernaw was overheard saying, "It's too easy!"

• Running back Derrick Henry continued to work with the first team with DeMarco Murray sidelined, and he continued to make some nice runs.

• Receiver Rishard Matthews was able to dig the football out in tight coverage at the goal-line. He caught a pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota right in front of cornerback LeShaun Sims, who was in good position.

• Tight end Jonnu Smith made a nice turning catch on a ball thrown by quarterback Matt Cassel.

• Rookie receiver Darius Jennings made one of the best catches of practice when he hauled in a pass from Cassel in the end zone with cornerback Demontre Hurst right there.

• Safety Johnathan Cyprien and Henry collided in the hole during 9-on-7 drills. Later in the same period, linebacker Aaron Wallace sent fullback Jalston Fowler moving the other direction after a collision.

• Kicker Ryan Succop has been very accurate in camp. He was a perfect 4-of-4 in a special teams period, and he nailed one to cap off another drive in a later period of practice.

• Cornerback Brice McCain made a nice break-up on a ball intended for Matthews, and during the same drill cornerback Logan Ryan made a solid play in coverage.

Play of Day

OK, so it's not a play, but a scrap generated the most buzz during Wednesday's session.

It started when guard Quinton Spain took linebacker Avery Williamson to the ground, and then escalated from there. Other players got into the fray while taking sides.

Now I've seen plenty of training camp fights over the years, and this one hardly qualifies as a big one. It doesn't make my Top 10.

What stood out most to me was general manager Jon Robinson's reaction to it. Robinson threw himself into the fray, shoving players out of his path in an attempt to quash it. Defensive line coach Nick Eason was especially vocal in breaking it up as well.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said "the juices were flowing" and he said players responded well in practice after the pileup.

"It is undisciplined, and undisciplined will get you beat," Mularkey said of the scrum. "So I don't like it."

Story of the Day

The Titans paid a tribute to country music legend Glen Campbell with the song selection over the speakers prior to practice.

Campbell passed away on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, his hit songs "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Galveston" blared over the sound system as players warmed up.

Mularkey said it was Robinson's idea.

"I thought it was a great idea," Mularkey said. "I thought it was good for this team. I think there's a lot of Glen Campbell fans out there, including me."

Supernaw said it was a nice change of pace.

"Rhinestone Cowboy," Supernaw said with a smile. "Usually we (hear) all this rap stuff and you can't hear the words – I don't even know what they are talking about. This you can get into."

Injury Watch

Murray (hamstring) was in uniform, but was limited.

Receiver Corey Davis (hamstring), receiver Tajae Sharpe (foot) and defensive lineman Karl Klug (ankle) did not practice.

Davis said after practice he's making progress, but said he's still "week to week."

Other notables

• Former Titans offensive coordinator Les Steckel, father of Titans assistant receivers coach Luke Steckel, attended practice.

• The Titans practiced with artificial crowd noise coming from the speakers during portions of practice.

• Randy Barnes, who coached Robinson at Union City High, attended practice as a guest of the GM.

Next practice: Thursday, 8:55 a.m. at Saint Thomas Sports Park.
