QB Marcus Mariota Practices, On Track to Play Sunday for Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota took part in practice on Wednesday, and his chances of playing on Sunday against the Texans appear to be good.

Mariota didn't finish Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins after suffering an elbow injury.

"He practiced, and he's feeling good," Titans coach Mike Vrabel said of Mariota. "He had some rest Monday and Tuesday, so he was able to get through and do everything and really looked OK.

"I would say barring any setbacks that Marcus is going to be good to go on Sunday."

Mariota was injured after taking a hit by Dolphins defensive lineman William Hayes, a former Titan. Mariota had just handed the ball off to running back Derrick Henry, and he didn't have the ball when he was hit.

Mariota on Wednesday that Hayes apologized to him after the game, and Vrabel said the NFL indicated to him this week a penalty should have been called on the play.

After initially trying to come back and play, Mariota was eventually replaced for good by quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

"I am feeling pretty good," Mariota said after practice on Wednesday. "I am kind of taking it one day at a time, but I was able to go through practice today and felt pretty good. For me, I just went through practice and felt it went fine."

Mariota finished the contest on Sunday 9-of-16 for 103 yards, with a 36.2 passer rating and the two interceptions. Gabbert was 11-of-22 for 117 yards, and he guided a second half drive.

Mariota was intercepted on consecutive throws after returning from the injury, and the Titans made the decision to go with Gabbert the rest of the way in the eventual 27-20 defeat.

Mariota said he doesn't think velocity will be a problem, but said he's working through some of the symptoms, including some slight tingling. But he's optimistic moving forward

"Being able to go out and practice today, and being able to throw it around," Mariota said. "It felt good."
