NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks started his break from football last week by making a surprise visit at Fall-Hamilton Enhanced Option School.

Fall-Hamilton is particularly special to Marks because the school is home to "Stepping Start." Stepping Start is an after-school program that is an extension of his Setting Marks Foundation, which emphasizes intellectual and life skills development for youth. The after-school program is designed to not only encourage intellectual development but also boosting physical development through the "stepping" form of dance.

Before the defensive tackle was introduced, the Stepping Start participants performed a step show for their fellow classmates. Stepping in unison, the fourth and fifth graders displayed teamwork, encouragement and confidence, which are all emphasized in the program.

Marks surprised the students of Fall-Hamilton by running into their assembly, and he received a tremendous roar from the Fall-Hamilton student body.  Marks told the youth that eating healthy and enjoying physical activities can help them have a better life. The defensive tackle also said being productive in school can help the youngsters achieve their goals in life.

When the assembly was over, a select group of 25 students were chosen to have one-on-one time with Marks and Titans Pro Bowl safety Michael Griffin.

Marks and Griffin signed autographs, posed for photos and answered all the questions from the curious elementary school students, ending the day with great laughs, high-fives and lasting memories for the youngsters.

About Stepping Start

Stepping Start is an after school program designed to encourage physical and intellectual development through "stepping." Stepping is a form of dance using strong and precise movements. Stepping Start uses fundraising to help support the participants' dues and uniform fees.

In this program, youth will have hands-on assistance with homework and go through a leadership development program. The team will compete in local and regional step competitions as well as participate in service learning projects such as "Global Youth Day."
