Marcus Mariota Ending Offseason Work on High Note

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –** Marcus Mariota is wrapping up offseason work on a high note.

Already, the Titans quarterback has his sights set on training camp.

"I feel great,'' Mariota said after Wednesday's minicamp practice. "For me personally, I feel comfortable. I feel like I could be out there right now. With that being said, watching these guys throughout OTAs, I think this team is in a good spot. We've worked hard.

"We've built a foundation and now we need to continue it this offseason and get ready for camp."

Mariota took part in all 10 organized team activities, and he's taken part in the first two days of the team's minicamp this week.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey said on Wednesday Mariota has made steady progress during the course of the offseason as he worked his way back from surgery on a fractured fibula.

"I am pleased with where he is at," Mularkey said of Mariota. "I think we have been smart with him. He'll be off the medical report I get every day and full go in training camp, which is a good sign.

"I didn't expect (him to do) anything in the OTAs, so we got a lot of work with him. The majority of it has been 7-on-7, individual, the walk-through periods. … Obviously we are pleased he got all these reps, he's had this much time with us. And I feel good about his recovery."

So what's next for Mariota?

Mularkey said he'll continue his rehab, which involves strengthening the muscles around the area where surgery was performed in December.

Mariota said he'll do it while on the move. He said he's still progressing, and is at the point now where he can run. He's working on making cuts while running on the field, and he said he'll continue to work on that aspect of his game in the next month.

"I'm going to head home and see my family back in Hawaii," Mariota said, "and from there I'm probably going to spend a week or two in Oregon and then be back in town."

At some point next month, he'll gather the team's receivers and do some work before camp begins at the end of July.

"You don't want to roll into camp rusty,'' he said.

Mariota knows he's cleared several hurdles this offseason as he gears up for Year 3.

Now, he's anxious to clear the final hurdles.

"I think from a strength standpoint I'm good. I mean, I've been doing everything lifting-wise. My body feels at a point where I can do all those things," Mariota said. "Now it's getting to the point of trusting myself to do it. Because a lot of it, even through this entire rehab process, it's going through that mental obstacle of, you want to protect it.

"Now it's good, you've done everything. Just trust it, that you can do the movements that you've been doing. So for me, that's my next step. For me, I've got to just go out and do it."
