KICKER JOEY SLYE
Do you have an idea that the 63-yard attempt would be good?
Honestly, the second I felt it, I already was giving Johnny (Hekker) a high five before the ball even went through the uprights. That way, going away from our bench, in pregame, I was hitting from, I think I hit one from 61, 62 (yards). Felt good as long as I stared at the right upright. So, the second the ball came off in that left hash at the right upright, I knew that it was honestly just distance at that point. I knew I had that as well, so it felt really good. Then, honestly, same thing on that last one from 53 (yards) going the opposite way.
What's your estimate on how long that would have been good from?
It was good from 63 (yards). Honestly, when they sent me out of there for them, I just kind of made from that distance, but I know I hit the back minute, so you can do the calculation on that. Hopefully, I know some stadiums have the Track Man stuff working, so maybe they can see the numbers, but it was good for 63, and that's all we needed.
Last week with the missed extra point coming off of that, where was your confidence coming into this one and how much of a boost is it having the 53-yarder, the 63-yarder? How much does that help you enter the season?
Yeah, honestly, the PAT last week with a sudden change opportunity. Kendell (Brooks) had a great play, or KB had the great play pick six. Honestly, just caught me off guard. I was sitting there watching, just kind of the sudden change stuff that we work on in practice and kind of caught me off guard a little bit. So, I went out there, rushed through my process. I know my process is dialed in, I'm good. So, I rushed through that, just got quick on the ball and knew as soon as I hit it. So, fixed it the rest of the game last week and then I had a good week of practice. I've been really dialed in, my swing feels great. So, it really was just going back and doing the same thing I do every single time.
Do you feel like when you cross midfield, you guys have a chance with you?
I mean, that's kind of the hope and wish that I have. I feel like my leg strength is good enough for it. It's just continuing dialing in the accuracy year to year. So, I just want to continue to instill confidence in Coach (Brian) Callahan and our offense, we have an opportunity at least.
