Dominique Davis Excited for Opportunity with Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Two weeks ago, Dominique Davis took part in a workout at Saint Thomas Sports Park. This week, he got a call to sign a contract.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Davis signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and spent his first two NFL seasons as the team's third string quarterback. The Falcons parted ways with Davis after minicamp in June of this year.

"I'm very excited. It's been a long time since I got released from Atlanta so I've been waiting for this call for a while," said Davis. "I'm coming here to try and control what I can control and make some plays out there."

The Titans' new QB will get that opportunity to make plays during the team's final preseason contest on Thursday against the Vikings. It's a tall task given only two days of preparation, but something that's a part of being in the league.

"That's why he's here, we're going to prepare him," said Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "He was available. He came in here for a workout a couple of weeks ago and did a nice job. He's been in the league. He's been in a system that's a little bit similar, so that's the thinking that maybe we can get him prepared to play in the game."

Like many players across the league who are fighting to make an NFL roster, this final preseason game is a chance to get tape that will be seen league wide.

"That's what preseason is for," Davis said. "I'm not only interviewing for the Tennessee Titans, but all 31 other teams. I'm going to do my best to put out some good film."

Davis was a full participant in Tuesday's practice and said there was no rust to shake off.

"I felt good," Davis stated. "I've been throwing and staying in shape in between getting cut and signing here. It feels normal."

The third-year quarterback graduated from East Carolina in 2012, throwing for 7,192 yards and 62 touchdowns in two seasons as a starter for the Pirates. Davis also added 313 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns during those two campaigns.
