Coach Munchak's Sept. 20 Practice Report

HEAD COACH MIKE MUNCHAK

(on injuries)

Kendall's (Wright) good. He'll be probable, listed as probable. He did everything today, and he feels good. Doctors feel good about him, and he's ready to go. We'll list him as probable. (David) Stewart didn't practice today, but he practiced yesterday. He's listed as questionable, and we'll assume he'll play. The two guys that'll be out are Shonn (Greene) and Sammie (Hill). (Zaviar) Gooden I think we have as questionable. Damian's (Williams) back, and he's probable.

(on clearing Kendall Wright to play)

I think he just has to make the visits. He did some tests this morning with our trainers and with our doctors earlier in the morning which he did fine with. He's cleared to practice. You have to make sure he's fine in practice today, but he did everything and felt good all day going through the reps here. He's good.

(on whether Kendall Wright's absence from practice this week will limit him on Sunday)

I don't think so. I think like you said, he's been able to do all the walkthrough stuff and get some reps. There's so much carryover from week-to-week. The fact that he practiced today was important to get the 30 reps in; that'll be big for him. He'll get through tomorrow which is still reps. He's confident, and we're confident.

(on Antonio Johnson adding depth to the defensive line)

He has experience. He's been playing a lot the last three years. We know firsthand from playing against him. I think he came in last week and did a nice job. He had about 25 reps or so in that area, so we see him with the same role this week. It's good that we have him. We need his size. We need his experience. He'll help us clog things up in the middle for the run game. He should be in good shape.

(on Blidi Wreh-Wilson's status)

He's questionable. Yesterday he got the hamstring that we talked about. He didn't finish practice yesterday. He didn't practice today, so we listed him as questionable. He's the one guy we'll probably have to wait until game time to see how he is.

(on whether the offense is overdue for some big plays)

I really thought there'd be more of them by now. As a coach, you always hope for the best. I think they'll come. We're not pressuring saying we have to have them, but it'll help change momentum in a game. We had a little taste of that in preseason and saw how much the momentum changes and the adrenaline and the confidence. Just like that first drive (against Houston) did the same thing. It'd be nice to see a couple big plays come out for both sides. Defense had a couple of big plays last week with the pick-six which is a big-time play. We'd like to see the special teams have a big play of some sort and then obviously offensively. Again, there's a big opportunity on Sunday to do that. We get to do it in front of our home crowd. We need to do those type of things because we need to put points on the board or it'll be a tough day.

(on Craig Stevens' role as a blocking tight end)

We feel comfortable with him. He's caught some more balls the last couple years, but when you have Delanie (Walker) and you start having the weapons we have, he hasn't been on the field as much in passing situations as he had been the last couple years. He's a guy we're confident in. He's got good hands, and he'll make the tough catch. We feel good when he gets an opportunity, but, yeah, his opportunities are going to be more limited because of Delanie (Walker) and the three-receiver packages.
