NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice.
The Titans face the Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Some quick snippets on what Callahan said:
-With running back Tyjae Spears returning to practice, Callahan was asked how he might factor into the offense alongside Tony Pollard. Callahan said Spears needs to get back into game shape, and the team wants to see how he looks, before making a definitive statement. "We're going to see where he's at and see how much he can handle from a conditioning and load standpoint," Callahan said of Spears. "But certainly, we would like to have him involved. He brings an explosive element and a change of pace that is going to be good for us. Hoping to get him involved as quickly as possible."
-Callahan was asked about the kicker tryouts the team had on Tuesday. Callahan called it "normal flow of operations" for an NFL front office while saying his confidence in kicker Joey Slye is still "sky high" despite his two misses on Sunday. "He has been fantastic for us," Callahan said. "I believe whole-heartedly in Joey. I'll send him right out there again to kick it again."
-Callahan said he'd be hard-pressed to find a defensive interior lineman in the league playing better than defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is right now. "He has been impactful on every way, shape or form," Callahan said of Simmons. "He's playing football at about as high a level as you can play."
-On the way out of the room, Callahan was asked about right tackle JC Latham's potential return: "We'll see," he said. Callahan said Latham is trending upward, and getting closer, and it's a matter of which day he returns. Latham hasn't played since Week One because of a hip injury.
