Catch Cally?: What Titans HC Brian Callahan's Said About the Jarvis Brownlee Trade and More on Wednesday

CatchCally-1

NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice.

The Titans face the Texans on Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Some quick snippets on what Callahan said:

-The Titans traded cornerback Jarvis Brownlee to the Jets on Tuesday, and Callahan addressed it right out of the gate.

"I know the Brownlee trade is on everybody's mind. Those are conversations that we have, and (Titans GM) Mike (Borgonzi) and I have all those conversations," Callahan said. "We're in lock step with those decisions that get made. Those are things that are made for the short-term and the long-term interest of the football team, and that's ultimately what it was. There's short-term, that's part of it, and there's long-term, too.

"I'm not going to go into too many details about those conversations."

-Callahan said some young players will have more of an opportunity moving forward, naming cornerbacks Marcus Harris and Jalyn-Armour Davis. Callahan said cornerbacks Darrell Baker and L'Jarius Sneed are playing well, "and we have some guys there that we are excited about."

-Callahan said he's not aware of Brownlee asking for a trade.

-Callahan called the trade a "one-off situation" and not necessarily a sign that more trades are on the horizon. "But I can't say whether or not there will be something more, or nothing more," Callahan said. "It's hard for me to make any predictions about that, or any statements about it."

-Callahan said he wants to see the team playing with more of a sense of urgency during the course of the week while leading up to Sunday's game against the Texans. "There should be an urgency, and an energy, that goes into how badly you want to find a way to win a game," Callahan said. "And that needs to come out in how we prepare, how we practice."

-After handing over play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree earlier this week, Callahan said he's been able to spend more time in meeting rooms for special teams and defense more than compared to previous weeks. "I'm still involved in the offense, and still around it, and in the meetings and all that stuff, when it comes to the game plan," Callahan said. "But we have a really good offensive staff and I put a lot of trust in them when I was calling it, and I have a lot of trust in them now with Bo calling it. It's been good, and I've actually enjoyed stepping back and looking at some other things."

-Callahan said Hardegree hasn't yet decided whether he'll call plays from the field, or from the press box, on Sunday.

-Callahan did not give any injury updates prior to today's practice. The team will release its first injury report late today.
