NASHVILLE, Tenn. –** ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay updated his 2018 NFL Mock Draft on Wednesday, and there were plenty of changes.
Pick No.25, which belongs to the Titans, remained unchanged, however.
In his Mock Draft 3.0, McShay still has the Titans picking South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert. It's the same pick McShay made for the Titans in his 2.0 edition.
"I would say it is a solid tight end class," McShay said on a conference call on Wednesday. "It is not a great group, but we've certainly had worse in years past.
"I am a big fan of Dallas Goedert. … He is kind of rare in that he is a two-way player, and by that I mean he can be an (on the line) blocker and he can legitimately go out and create some matchup problems when you detach him from the line and use him at the tight end role. I was really impressed with his tape and I think he is going to work out well when he does eventually work out. I think he is a late first-round pick. Others view him as early, mid-second round. But beyond pick 20, he should be in play."
Goedert caught 92 balls for 1,293 yards as a junior and he had 72 catches for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns in 2017.
Here's what McShay said on espn.com at pick No.25 for the Titans:
"It isn't a terrific tight end group this year, but Goedert is the best one in this class," McShay wrote. "He's still a little underrated and didn't get a chance to shine at the Senior Bowl or combine because of injury. His pro day will be important. You don't get too many two-way TEs coming out of college, but Goedert fits the bill. He's got a big frame (6-4, 260) with good speed and can play in-line or detached."
Three-time Pro Bowler Delanie Walker remains under contract for the Titans, and the team took Florida International tight end Jonnu Smith in the third round of last year's NFL Draft. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel mentioned Smith recently in a positive manner when discussing some of the team's returning players.
Tight ends Phillip Supernaw, Luke Stocker and Tim Semisch are all under contract and scheduled to return – and compete -- in training camp.
On the conference call, McShay said South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst is also a really good athlete who can block as well. He also mentioned Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki, praising his athletic ability, but he noted he's lacking as a blocker. McShay projects Hurst as "late first, early second" and "Gesicki is in that range as well," he said.
