Conference call: Texans RB Steve Slaton

RB STEVE SLATON, DEC. 10, 2008

(On what it would mean to beat the Titans)

It would mean a lot. That's the biggest thing that coaches preach, finishing strong. I think we've been finishing pretty strong the past few games, we just have to keep it up.

(On the things they could have done to win the last time they played the Titans)

Yeah, we were in the red zone a bunch of times and we had to put points on the board. The biggest way you're going to beat yourself is not putting points on the board when you're in the red zone. Hopefully we can change that this week.

(On how much better the Texans are now compared to the last time they played the Titans)

I think we're a lot better. We're finally playing football as we should. I still think we're playing it a little bit safe and not putting as many points as we can on the board. But when we have our chances, I think we're playing well and finishing pretty strong.

(On the last game against the Titans being his first career start)

I just wanted to make it as seamless as I could. I just wanted to go out there and play as well as I could.

(On his reaction to pundits labeling him a third-down back when he came into the league)

I see why but I still felt like I could hold that role.

(On reasons for his success the past few weeks)

I think I'm getting a better sense of the running scheme. I've been watching a lot of film and seeing what other backs have been doing against teams. My line and my fullback and my receivers have done great jobs opening holes for me.

(On Eric Winston as a blocker)

I'm comfortable with everybody. Eric Winston is doing a great job and I feel comfortable running on any side.     …going to put it on the line for me as much as I want to put it on the line for them.

(On if he takes pride in being the only 100-yard rusher against the Titans this year)

Yeah and I think a lot of teams have been following some our blocking schemes [so] it's a big thing.

(On the challenges the Titans defense present)

They're a great defense. They're holding everybody, all the running backs they've faced, [have rushed] for under 100 yards. That's a great achievement week in and week out to hold a running back under 100 yards.

(On if they game plan around Albert Haynesworth or test him up the middle)

You have to do a little bit of both. You have to try and tire him down, maybe not so much early on, just wait until later in the game when he gets tired.

(On how his body feels after a game)

It feels sore. You can definitely feel the bumps and bruises a little bit but I like to just go sit in the hot tub, soak a little bit and get a massage.

(On if he feels more sore now then he did in college)

I think it's kind of the same but just a longer time. You're playing a little bit longer than in college.

(On if the soreness lasts longer)

I think the two days definitely helps, to have Monday and Tuesday [off]. You still feel a little bit Tuesday but if you had to go out there and practice you'd be good. But definitely having Tuesday off is a plus.
