The Titans claimed Sam Ficken off waivers during the 2021 training camp to add competition and experience to the kicking position. The 6-foot-1-inch, 192-pounder has appeared in 28 games over four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams (2017-18) and New York Jets (2019-20), and has made 35 of 48 career field goals (72.9 percent), including a long of 54, and 49 of 56 extra point tries (87.5 percent). He has totaled 154 career points. The Valparaiso, Ind., native has recorded 111 career kickoffs for 7,037 yards (63.4-yard avg.) with 63 touchbacks. Ficken originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 and has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.


  • In 2017, Ficken made his postseason debut and successfully made both field goal attempts and his lone extra point try.
  • In 2019, Ficken set career-highs in games played (15), extra points made (23) and attempted (26), field goals made (19) and attempted (27), field goal long (54), and points scored (80).


  • Before Ficken was signed by the Rams in 2017, he put his finance degree to use by working at a brokerage firm in Connecticut. 'When I got called to come out, they said they hoped they never saw me again.'
  • Cousin, Robbie Hummel, played basketball at Purdue and was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2012 NBA Draft.
